(24-25九年級上·江蘇蘇州·期中)Every year, wildfires destroy tens of thousands of square kilometers of forest land. People lose their homes. Some are hurt or even killed. Smokejumpers help to stop this.
Smokejumpers are special firefighters. Some fires are in hard-to-reach places, such as in the middle of a mountain forest. These firefighters jump from planes or are lowered into those areas by helicopters (直升機).
When they arrive, smokejumpers first check the land and decide how to fight the fire. Their main job is to stop the fire from spreading until other firefighters arrive. Smokejumpers use shovels (鏟子) or axes (斧頭) to clear the land of burnable things. like dry grass and dead trees. They carry water with them too, but not a lot.
Although most smokejumpers are men, more women are joining now. The most important factors (因素) are height and weight. Smokejumpers in the U. S., for example, must be between 54 and 91 kilograms. This way, they don’t get blown away by the strong winds or get hurt when-they-land. Smokejumpers also need to know how to survive in the wild. In Russia, many smokejumpers know how to find food in the forest and can even make simple furniture from trees.
The work is dangerous, and the hours are long. But for these firefighters, smokejumping isn’t just a job. They love being able to jump out of planes, fight fires and live in the forest. Alexi Tishin is a 28-year-old Russian smokejumper. He says, “This is the best job for tough guys (硬漢).”

(24-25九年級上·江蘇鹽城·階段練習)①The Feynman Technique(費曼學習法) was developed by Nobel Prize- winning physicist Richard Feynman. It’s a study method that helps students learn by teaching others.
②The Feynman Technique has been one of the most effective study methods for many years. For one thing, it helps students really understand something instead of just memorizing information. Plus, unlike traditional study methods like re- reading textbooks or reviewing notes, it pushes students to be more actively involved in the learning process.
③If you want to use the Feynman Technique to study better, follow these steps. To begin with, choose a topic you want to learn, including sub- topics(子主題). If not, you’ ll end up jumping between topics without developing a deeper understanding of any of them.
④The second step is the heart of the Feynman Technique: explaining the topic simply enough to be understood by a sixth- grade student. This needs you to help the child understand by using the simplest and clearest language possible. This step helps separate indigestible topics into their most basic(基礎的) parts.
⑤Next, review your explanation and try to find any area where you felt that you couldn’t explain the topic simply. When possible, it can be very helpful to get advice from someone whose understanding is similar to that of a sixth- grader.
⑥The fourth step is to improve your explanation using the information collected from the third step. Finally, repeat the steps. The Feynman Technique works best with repetition, and that is why going through all the prior(先前的) steps just once is usually not enough to filly understand the topic.
⑦Once you’ re confident you’ve learned the topic, it’s time to give yourself a prize. Perhaps, like me. enjoy a nice cup of coffee.
30.Why is the Feynman Technique better than traditional study methods
A.It saves students’ study time. B.It allows students to study in groups.
C.It encourages students to do active learning. D.It helps students memorize more information.
31.What does the underlined word “indigestible” mean
A.Big. B.Small. C.Simple. D.Difficult.
32.Who can you get suggestions from according to the third step
A.Your parents. B.Your teachers.
C.A 12- year- old girl. D.An expert(專家) in learning.
33.How is the text organized
A.①/②/③④⑤⑥/⑦. B.①/②/③④/⑤⑥/⑦.
C.①②/③④⑤⑥/⑦. D.①②/③④/⑤⑥/⑦.
