Part1 核心單詞
1 only /' nli/ adv. 只有；僅僅adj. 唯一的；僅有的
only 作副詞，意為“只有；僅僅”，通常位于所強調的詞、短語或句子的前面。
only 還可作形容詞，意為“唯一的；僅有的”。用于名詞前作定語。
注意：only 在句中的位置不同，句子的含義也有所不同。
例：You can only taste the delicious hot pot chicken in Cangzhou.只有在滄州你才能品嘗到美味的火鍋雞。
He only eats vegetables.他只吃蔬菜。
Only he eats vegetables只有他吃蔬菜。
The only problem is that we don’t have enough time.僅有的問題是我們沒有足夠的時間。
2 million /'m lj n/ num. 一百萬（教材P18）
million num.“一百萬”，與具體數字連用時million 不用復數，且后不加of。
millions of 表示“數百萬的；大量的”，后接可數名詞復數。
在英語數字表達中，每三位數字為一個單位，從右往左依次是 thousand 千、million 百萬、billion 十億等。
例：The population of Baoding is about ten million.保定的人口大約1000 萬。
Millions of tourists come to Laiyuan every year to enjoy the Baishi Mountain. 每年數百萬游客到淶源來欣賞白石山。
3 level /'levl/ n. 水平；標準；級別
level n.“水平；標準”。
常見搭配：
1）the level of ……的水平
2）on a level 水平不相上下
level 作名詞，還可意為：（1）級別
2）（與地面或過去位置相對的）高度 sea level 海平面
例：The students are at different English levels.學生們的英語水平各不相同。
The water rose to the level of the bridge. 水位漲到了橋的高度。
Both players are on a level. 兩位選手的水平不相上下。
There are no easy games at this level. 在這級別就沒有容易的比賽。
The sea level rose. 海平面升高了。
4 even /'i vn/ adv. 甚至
even adv.“甚至”，可修飾名詞、動詞、副詞、介詞短語等。用于加強語氣，強調出乎意料或程度之深。
even 還可表示“更加；愈加”，用于修飾比較級。
例：She was so tired that she couldn’t even stand up. 她太累了，甚至站不起來。
Even a child can understand it. 這就連小孩子也能理解。
The temperature is even higher today than yesterday.今天的溫度比昨天更高。
5 need /ni d/ v. & n. 需要；必需
1）need 作實義動詞，意為“需要”，其后可接名詞、代詞或動詞不定式作賓語，此時need 有人稱、數和時態的變化。在一般疑問句和否定句中要借助助動詞do/does。
2）need 作實義動詞時的具體用法：
need sth./sb. 需要某物/ 某人
need to do sth. 需要做某事
need sb. to do sth. 需要某人做某事
3）need 還可作情態動詞，后跟動詞原形。多用于否定句和疑問句中。否定形式為need not（needn’t）。
4）need 還可作名詞，意為“需要”。常見搭配：in need of 需要；There is no need to do sth. 沒必要做某事。
例：You need a dictionary. 你需要一本詞典。
He needs to study harder. 他需要更努力地學習。
Mary needs someone to fix the leak in the bathroom.瑪麗需要有人修理浴室的漏水。
Do they need more time to finish the work 他們完成這項工作需要更多時間嗎？
You needn’t worry about it. 你不必為此擔心。
We should help those people in need.我們應該幫助那些有需要的人。
6 piece /pi s/ n. 片；碎片；一件
piece n“. 片；碎片；一件”，是可數名詞，常與of連用，表示整體中的一部分。
a piece of 意為“一塊、一片、一張、一首等”，后接不可數名詞，表示量。如果表示的量超過1 時，要用pieces of。
a piece of... 作主語時，謂語動詞用第三人稱單數形式；... pieces of... 作主語時，謂語動詞用復數形式。
piece 的常見搭配：
（1）a piece of advice 一條建議 （2）break into pieces 摔成碎片
例：Could you give me a piece of advice 你能給我一條建議嗎？
I ate a piece of chocolate. 我吃了一塊巧克力。
There is only one piece of fruit in the bowl. 碗里只有一塊水果。
Two pieces of clothing are on the table. 兩件衣服在桌子上。
The toy broke into pieces after it fell. 玩具掉下來后摔碎了。
7 quick /kw k/ adj. 快的；迅速的
quick adj. “快的；迅速的”，在句中可作定語或表語。反義詞為slow“緩慢的”。
quickly adv. 很快地；迅速地
辨析：quick 與fast
1）quick 形容詞，既可表示動作短促迅速，也可指人的思維敏捷，反應靈敏。
2）fast 既可作形容詞也可作副詞。指人或物本身具有速度快的特點，強調速度快。
例：ry to be quick. We’re late already.盡量快點兒，我們已經遲到了。
The rabbit made a quick escape. 兔子迅速逃跑了。
She gave a quick answer. 她迅速地作出了回答。
Quick, close the door before the cat gets out.快，在貓跑出去之前把門關上。
A cheetah is a very fast animal. 獵豹是速度很快的動物。
8 fox /f ks/ n. 狐貍
fox 作名詞，意為“狐貍”，復數形式為foxes。fox 還可指狡猾的人。
例：Set a fox to keep one’s geese. 引狼入室。［諺語］
Foxes can run very fast. 狐貍可以跑得很快。
He’s a sly fox. 他是個狡猾的家伙。
9 lazy /'le zi/ adj. 懶惰的
lazy adj. 意為“懶惰的”，在句中可作定語或表語。lazy 作形容詞還可意為“懶洋洋的”
例：The cat is lazy and sleeps all day.這只貓很懶，整天都在睡覺。
Lazy hands make for poverty. 懶惰的手導致貧窮。［諺語］
We had a lazy day on the beach.我們在海灘上度過了悠閑的一天。
10 fact /f kt/ n. 事實；現實
fact 意為“事實”，是可數名詞；意為“現實”，通常用單數形式。
fact 的常用搭配：in fact 實際上 as a matter of fact 事實上
例：It’s a fact that the earth moves around the sun.地球繞著太陽轉是一個事實。
The story is based on the fact.這個故事是根據真人真事寫的。
He looks young. In fact, he is already fifty.他看起來年輕，實際上他已經 50 歲了。
As a matter of fact, I don’t like this movie at all.事實上，我一點也不喜歡這部電影。
Part2 核心短語
1 more than 多于
more than 意為“多于”，相當于over，常用于數詞前，其反義短語為less than“少于”。
more than 還可意為“不僅僅是”，后接名詞或動名詞。
no more than + 數詞 至多；不超過
例：Beijing has more than ten districts.北京有十多個區。
He is more than a teacher. He is a mentor and a friend.他不只是一位老師，他還是一位導師和朋友。
The journey takes no more than two hours by train.坐火車這段旅程至多兩個小時。
2 move around 四處移動
move around 意為“四處移動”，相當于move about，表示位置移動，也可表示四處活動。
與 move 相關的短語：
1）move in/into 搬進
2）move out 搬出；遷出
3）move (from...) to...（從……）搬到……
例：The children like to move around the playground during the break. 孩子們課間喜歡在操場上到處跑。
Confucius moved around many countries to spread his teachings. 孔子周游列國來傳播他的學說。
Our new neighbours moved in yesterday.我們的新鄰居昨天搬來了。
3 a piece of cake 小菜一碟（教材P18）
a piece of cake“小菜一碟”，常用于口語，意思是某件事情非常容易，就像吃一塊蛋糕一樣輕松。這個表達用來形容一項任務或工作沒有任何困難，毫不費力地就能完成。
例：Solving this maths problem is a piece of cake for him.解決這道數學題對他來說是小菜一碟。
4 jump over 跳過
jump over 意為“跳過”，指跳過具體的物體或障礙。
jump over 還可意為“略過”。
jump over 還可用于抽象意義，表示“跨越；克服”。
例：The athlete can jump over the high bar easily.這位運動員可以輕松地跳過高杠。

We need to jump over this financial difficulty.我們需要克服這個財務困難。
辨析：jump across 與jump through
jump across 副意思是“跳著穿過；跨越（強調從一邊到另一邊）”，和“jump over” 有相似之處，但“jump across”更側重于從一個平面的一邊跳到另一邊。
jump through 表示“跳過；穿過”，帶有從中間通過的含義，通常用于描述通過一個有開口的空間或一系列復雜的程序等。
例：The athlete can jump over the high bar easily.這位運動員可以輕松地跳過高杠。

Part3 核心句式
There are only 26 letters in English,... 英文中只有26 個字母，……
1）分析結構 “There be + 名詞.”是一個表示存在的固定結構，There be 表示“有”，其中be 動詞的形式由后面的名詞的單復數決定，這里 26 letters 是復數，所以用are。
2）“There + b e（根據主語單復數和時態變化）+ 主語 + 地點 / 時間狀語.”，表示“某地 / 某時有某物 / 某人”，強調存在關系。如果有兩個或兩個以上的主語，be 動詞的形式與最靠近它的主語保持一致（就近原則）。
辨析：there be 與have/has
there be 表示“有”，側重于客觀存在，指“（某地）有某物”。
have/has 表示“有”，側重于主觀方面，主語通常為人，指“某人擁有某物”。
例：There is some water in the glass. 杯子里有一些水。
There are many students in the classroom. 教室里有許多學生。
There is a pen and two pencils in the box.盒子里有一支鋼筆和兩支鉛筆。
