Dear Sunday Globe,
I am writing to you about your article in last Sunday's newspaper, Cell Phones Make Life Easier: You did an excellent job explaining the good points of cell phones: they're convenient, we feel safer always being able to call someone, and they are very helpful in business. On the other hand, you didn't talk about their bad points at all. Thus, I hope you'll let me give your readers some advice on cell phone etiquette.
The first point I'd like to address is loudness. When talking face to face in public, you wouldn't shout. Likewise, you shouldn't shout when you talk on your cell phone in public. Furthermore, keep your ringer nice and quiet —don't let it ring in the meeting, at the movies, etc.
Another point has to do with personal space. I think it is very impolite to make calls in small spaces or crowded rooms. This makes others uncomfortable and forces them to listen to your personal business. Additionally, it stops many face-to-face conversations from ever beginning; that's why I never use my cellphone within three meters of other people except in emergencies, and only after asking permission
Lastly, let me draw your readers' attention to the dangers of doing two thing sat the same time. For instance, cell phones and driving are a bad combination. Pay attention to the road! Likewise, cell phones can cause you to neglect good friends. Give friends who are with you your full attention. Turn off your cellphone and enjoy their company!
Sincerely,
Amber Jala

I was in a shopping mall, so I decided to go and get a cup of coffee. As I was making my way to the coffee shop, I noticed an old gentleman poorly dressed sitting near the shop. I knew from the first sight that he needed help. He had a little lunch in front of him and was enjoying it. It was clear that he had a problem with his right eye. I then joined the line and waited to be served.
Then it happened一one of the most beautiful gestures I had ever seen in my life. There was a young man in front of me in the line who was also waiting to be served. The next thing I knew was that the young man handed the waitress 20 dollars and requested a glass of juice as a favor. The waitress looked at the young man a little perplexed, not fully understanding the request. That was when the young man asked her to give the juice to the old gentleman eating his lunch outside, as well as the change from the 20 dollars. The young man also told her that he would be watching every second so that she would be completely safe. Then there was a wonderful exchange between the waitress and the old man. I only wished I could take a photo of the smiles on both of their faces.

In our daily life, direct questions are usually used to ask for information we do not know. Direct questions are either yes/no questions such as "Are you married " or information questions such as "Where do you live ".
It's OK to ask your friends or someone you know well direct questions. But they can seem abrupt and impolite at times, especially when you are asking a stranger. For example, if you come up to someone and ask "What time is it " or "Can you move ", he/she may refuse to help you. It is certainly correct to ask questions in this way, but it's very common to make these kinds of questions more polite by adding "Excuse me" or "Pardon me" to begin your questions. "Excuse me, when does the bus leave " or "Pardon me, may I sit here " sounds more polite.
It's also possible to use "can" in more informal (非正式的) situations. In the past, "can" was not used when asking for something, but only to refer to abilities. In the United Kingdom, Cambridge University publishes (出版) English teaching materials with the phrase "Can you lend me" "Can I have", etc. In the United States, this form is still considered to be incorrect, especially for written English, and "May I have" is preferred. Questions with "can" are made more polite by using "could": "Pardon me, could you help me "
"Would" can also be used to make questions more polite. "Would you let me borrow your pencil " is also polite.
Another way of making direct questions more polite is to add "please" at the end of the questions. We can say "Could you help me, please " "Please" should not appear at the beginning of the questions.

How do you disagree with or complain(抱怨)to someone in a polite way
Your teacher says Pluto(冥王星)is a planet and you know that it's not. Here's one polite way of telling the teacher. You can say, "Excuse me, teacher, but I have heard that scientists now don't call Pluto a planet." If you say "excuse me" and don't use words like "wrong", your teacher won't feel unhappy.
And there are times when we need to complain. You have bought an MP3 player. The shop assistant tells you that the player also has a radio. You buy it but find that it doesn't. You need to go back to the store and complain. You can say to the assistant, "I was told that the MP3 has a radio but it doesn't have one. I would like my money back please." This is a polite way of complaining.
We have disagreement with friends sometimes. If your friend leaves tea cups and candy paper bags here and there, you can say, "It's really a bit difficult to do my homework here. It is a little dirty. Would you mind being a little tidier, please "

It's important to be polite and friendly when answering the phone, especially if you're speaking to a stranger. When answering the phone, it's important to know how to answer properly so that you can have a pleasant conversation.
Answer in a quiet environment. If you're in a loud environment, move somewhere quieter before answering the phone, or turn down the music or television before answering. You want to be in a place that's quiet enough so that you can hear the person talking to you, and that he or she can hear you.
stop your other tasks before answering the phone. Take a short moment to collect your thoughts before answering. Don't be distracted, as this could lead to miscommunication(誤傳)between you and the person you're speaking to. If you're free from distractions, the person you're speaking to will feel that he or she has your full attention. For example, if you are working on your computer or reading a book when the phone rings, stop these tasks and then pick up the call.
Say "Hello" and tell your name in a pleasant voice. If you don't know who is calling, you can add "This is Sam." For a more formal answer, you can say, for example, "This is the Smiths' house." If you see on Caller ID that a friend or family member is calling, feel free to say "Hi Tom! How are you today "
Take down the caller's information if the family member he or she is trying to reach is unavailable. If the caller is trying to reach someone who is not at home or is unavailable, say "I'm sorry, Mrs. Simpson. My father is not available right now.
As I was considering this event later, I wondered why the young man didn't perform this act of kindness himself. Maybe he was hoping that this act of kindness might inspireothers to do something for this old man as well.

In the fight against the new coronavirus, Chinese people have come up with many creative ways to solve different problems. They have shown their wisdom during hard times.
Amazing China speed
In cities like Wuhan that have large numbers of infected people, more hospital beds are needed. The quickest way to solve this is to build makeshift hospitals.
On Jan.23 and 25, the government decided to build Huoshenshan Hospital and Leishenshan Hospital in Wuhan. More than 4, 000 workers worked day and night, and nearly 1, 000 large machines and transportation helped with the project.
Within less than 15 days, the two hospitals were set up. They provided about 2, 600 beds in total. The speed shocked many people around the world.
All for masks

Several car factories in China have also turned their production lines into mask- making lines.
Sharing workers
The idea of "sharing workers" became popular during the period. As most people were staying at home, many workers in restaurants, cinemas and shopping malls had no work and were not getting paid. However, online everyday and medical things continued to grow, making the workers from Jingdong, Fresh Hema and other online shops too busy.
