The new school year is coming. Who will be your new classmates Will you sit alone or in pairs In fact, there are many different classroom seating arrangements (排列). Let’s take a look at some of them.
Traditional Seating
Students sit alone in rows. This seating arrangement helps students listen to the teacher carefully. But it is not convenient for students to have discussions in class.
Paired Seating
Two desks are put together. Students sit side by side. Sitting in pairs allows students to discuss and cooperate with their deskmates (同桌).However, some students can’t focus on their lessons because they may chat with their deskmates.
Group Seating
Students sit in small groups, facing each other. This arrangement is great for either large classes or small classrooms. It is good for group discussions and cooperation. But there is a problem. When students are doing group work, some of them may sit back and leave others to find a way out.
U-Shape Seating
Desks are placed in a U-shape. This kind of seating creates an open space in the middle. The teacher has enough space to move around. However, it takes up more classroom space.
Every coin has two sides. Every seating arrangement has its own advantages and disadvantages.

The history of traffic lights dates back to the early 19th century in Britain. London was a busy city with horse-drawn carriages (馬車). They often rushed into people, causing many accidents. At the same time, there was a fashion rule in London—women in red showed that they were married and green for unmarried. This gave people the idea for using red and green as traffic signs later.
On December 10th, 1868, British mechanic (機械師) De Hart designed the world’s first traffic light with only red and green. A policeman had to pull a belt to change the lights: red meant “stop”, and green meant “go”. At first, it worked well and reduced accidents. However, this traffic light exploded (爆炸) after 23 days. The light was turned off, but the idea stayed alive.
In 1914, electric traffic lights were first used in America. Red and green still did their jobs, then they were safer and easier to see.
In 1927, a Chinese student named Hu Ruding was studying in the US. He noticed drivers sometimes rushed when the light changed. “What if there’s a middle color to slow people down ” he thought. That’s how the yellow light was born, meaning “get ready to stop.” Around the same time, an American policeman named William Potts created the first three-color traffic lights for all directions. They made crossroads much safer.
These colors were not chosen by chance. Red is easy to see, like a fire alarm, so it means “danger-stop!” Yellow is a warning, like a sign that says “be careful—slow down!” Green, like a forest, tells us “safe to go!” Together, they form a common language that keeps safe every day.
Great ideas come from everyday things. Whether traffic lights or something else, noticing and thinking “what if” can change the world!
5.When did the world’s first traffic light with only red and green appear
6.Who suggested adding a yellow light to traffic signs
7.What does the underlined word “they” refer to in Paragraph 5
8.What’s the title for the passage
9.According to the writer’s opinion, what should we do

8:15 p. m. 31 May I disliked hiking in the past, but now I enjoy it. My father and I had a hiking trip on MacLehose Trail in Hong Kong. The journey was harder than I expected. My legs started burning after just 30 minutes. But as we climbed higher, the amazing views—green hills, golden beaches, and endless ocean—seemed under my feet. There’s an old Chinese saying, “When you climb to the top, all other mountains seem small.” That’s exactly how I felt. Every drop of sweat counts!
8: 17 p. m. 31 May “I feel free and peaceful.” This was my answer to my friend when she asked me how I felt after an afternoon walk. As we walked through the park, I noticed all those fallen leaves with different shapes and colors lying on the ground. I picked some up and made them into a picture. You know what they say, “The best thing in life is free.” That’s so true. By walking, I got good exercise. By collecting these little treasures, I started paying attention to all the small things around me that I used to miss. It was like an escape (逃離) from what was troubling me.
12 minutes ago During the holiday, my family and I went to Crystal Waterfall. It was amazing! I stood near the falls, hearing the rush of water and feeling the cool mist (水霧). The sound of the water was actually super relaxing. It felt like all my tiredness and worries were being washed away. Back home, I even downloaded the recordings of waterfalls online. They can help me sleep better!

The two-day weekend provides me with more time for my all-round development. I can take up new hobbies, like gardening, yoga or painting. Also, I can take part in volunteer work or community service. These activities help open my eyes, improve my communication skills and grow my sense of responsibility. My parents are busy working on weekends. For two days, there’s no one watching over me. I may lose myself in playing computer games or watching TV rather than focusing on my studies. If I relax over the weekend while other classmates continue studying, I am afraid I will fall behind.

Every day, we hear sounds all around us—some soft, some loud. But do you know that loud sounds can harm your hearing
Sounds are measured (測量) in decibels (分貝). Look at the chart—some sounds are safe for our ears, but when a sound goes over 85 decibels, it can be harmful to our hearing. To reduce the risk of hearing loss, we shall pay attention to the loudness of the noise, the distance we are to it and how long we listen to it.
Noise levels can be measured by sound-level meters (噪聲計), but you probably don’t always carry one with you. So how can you tell whether noises are too loud or not Ask yourself: Do you have to raise your voice to be heard Do you find it hard to hear someone about a meter away from you Do the noises make your cars hurt or ring for some time If your answer is YES to any of these, that probably means the noises are too loud.
Headphones are especially tricky. Many people enjoy using them, but they often listen to loud music for too long, or keep the volume (音量) so high that even other people can hear the noise from their headphones. These can lead to hearing loss.
Your hearing is a gift. You need it for learning, communicating, and enjoying the world. Once your hearing is harmed, it may never come back.
49.According to the chart, what sounds can harm your hearing
50.How can you know if the noises are too loud (Give 2 examples.)
51.Why is hearing important What can you do to protect it

Fashion trends (趨勢) are around us, and can be exciting. A trend used to happen in a 20-year cycle, but the latest development of the Internet and clothing business has increasingly cut the length of the cycle short. Now, it seems there comes a new fashion trend every couple of months, but it still follows the same stages:
●A trend is usually first brought in during a big fashion show. Reporters, writers, and some other important people collect what they have learned in the show and predict a trend in the near future.
●Then the trend is talked about online and finally worn by famous people to make it better accepted, which leads to the rise of the trend.
●Once the trend becomes popular, it will go to the public soon. Large clothing companies and shops begin following the trend so that everyone can get their hands on it. This is when the trend gets to the highest point.
●After that, the trend usually falls and becomes out of date. However, this is not always the end, as trends happen in broader cycles and most get popular again.
Trends can be a great way to try something new and test your style. A survey says some people enjoy following trends because they keep fashion exciting and provide fresh ideas. However, others may not think so, especially when a trend doesn’t agree with how they feel about themselves. Trends can be fun, but sometimes prove a waste of money because many simply see trends as brands (品牌). So, should we follow fashion trends
Clearly, there’s no right answer whether to follow trends or not depends on how they go with your values, spending, and sense of self. It does not hurt to watch trend reports but never choose to follow them unless you really think they fit with your personal style.
52.How long does a new fashion trend last now
53.Who usually first realizes a new fashion trend
54.Which situation means the trend has reached the highest point
55.Why do some people dislike following trends according to the survey
56.Do you prefer brands when buying clothes Why or why not

Water is important in our life, but sometimes water can be dangerous. So we must pay attention to water safety, especially for kids. Water safety for kids often happens at home and in the pool. Here are some suggestions.
▲Be careful of hot water. Hot water can be dangerous, especially for kids under five. Young kids have thinner skin (皮膚) than adults, so it’s easier for them to be burnt. You can reduce the risk by testing the temperature of the water with your wrist (腕) or elbow (肘) before placing your kid in the bath.
▲Watch out for danger in the bathroom. The bathroom is full of danger for young kids. Parents can’t leave them alone in the bathrooms. When young kids are in the bathrooms, remember to put away all the electrical appliances (設備) to avoid the risk.
▲Never let kids swim alone. Swimming in the pool may make kids feel great. But it is not a perfect sport because of the risk of injury (傷害). It’s dangerous when kids stay in the pool alone because they may even drown (溺亡). So kids should swim with their parents.

On April 19, the world’s first half-marathon for humanoid (人形的) robots was held in Beijing. The robots waited beside human runners, starting from the same line.
“I saw many robots running. Some were surprisingly fast, others had very lovely designs, and their running styles were quite different,” said Zhang Huihui, who took part in the race.
During the 21-kilometer-long race, the robots had to run on two legs. Some even wore running shoes. Each robot was supported by a team of human guides, operators (操作員) and engineers. We made history together.”
“Robots’ completing the race isn’t the finish line. It’s the starting point for the growth of the robot industry,” said Liang Liang, from Yizhuang’s Administrative Committee.
