What is 5G? It is the fifth generation of mobile network technology.China’s telecom companies have been able to offer 5G networks for mobile phone users since 2019.
Do you know the development of mobile network technology? Each mobile network generation is faster and more powerful than the one before it.1G let us talk to each other.2G let us send messages.3G gave us data and the Internet. And 4G made all of these things faster. What’s special about 5G?
5G has a very short delay(延遲) between sending and receiving information.4G takes about 100 to 200 milliseconds(毫秒) to send and receive data. But 5G will get it down to 1 millisecond or less. This is almost real-time.
This big change will not only make our mobile Internet faster ,but also deeply change our lives.Read on to find out how.
5G+entertainment:5G networks are about 100 times faster than 4G.This means you can download a movie in seconds using 5G.Also ,virtual reality(VR) games will become more popular with 5G.The short delay of 5G will make the games feel even more real.
5G+transport:5G will also bring us safer self-driving cars. These cars can send signals to each other. They also talk to traffic lights and road sensors(傳感器).5G will allow cars to react even faster than human drivers.
5G+smart-homes:5G also makes the Internet of Things(IoT) (物聯網) possible.IoT is a large network that connects everything to the Internet.Smart homes are part of it.For example ,your toaster(烤面包片機) can automatically start making breakfast after your alarm rings. And if its sensor feels the air becoming dry ,a smart sprinkler could water your plants by itself.

Shashiyu was once a poor village in Hebei Province, but now it has changed into a rich and livable place.
In the 1940s,villagers in Shashiyu had little food and few clothes, but they had a strong wish for a better life.Zhang Guishun, the Party secretary of Shashiyu, encouraged his villagers to do their best to pull themselves out of poverty.“In the ancient Chinese story,Yu Gong could move mountains with his strong will and hard work, why can’t we? Nobody was born to be poor!” Hearing his words, the villagers decided to make a difference.
Led by the Communist Party of China, the villagers carried water and soil to their village from faraway places to improve their land. From 1966 to 1971,they reclaimed(開墾) lots of land and greatly improved their life.
However, the village encountered a new problem two decades later as the environment became heavily polluted by chemical plants and mine refineries built in the 1990s.
The polluting factories were shut down in 2004,and villagers started grape cultivation(栽培),which soon became a main industry in Shashiyu.
In 2009,the city-level government invested over 1 million yuan($152,723) to change the village’s exhibition hall into a museum in memory of development efforts made by earlier generations. After 10 years, the village was called “National Forest Village”.
Zhang said that the village started a yearly tourism festival in 2015 to attract travelers to pick grapes.“The grapes could be sold at a better price once Shashiyu becomes famous through this festival. Our villagers can then live even better lives,” he said.
