在西方國家，一般不對陌生人詢問年齡，會被認為是不禮貌的行為。因為年齡屬于個人隱私，不能隨便詢問。但如果是熟人之間，則可以相互詢問年齡。
而在我們國家，相互詢問年齡是很普通的問題。我們可以通過對方的年齡，從而決定我們對別人的稱呼,如：哥哥，姐姐，叔叔，婆婆，阿姨，爺爺等，以表達我們的敬意！
