Language Abilities Grasp the following important points as well as be able to read and write correctly. Key words and phrases:fox,giraffe,eagle,wolf,penguin,care,clever,funny,take care of Key sentences:①—What's your favourite animal?—It's the monkey. ②—Why do you like monkeys?—Because they're clever and funny.
Learning Abilities ●Learn to grasp key words,phrases,and sentences. ●Learn to accumulate vocabulary,expressions and sentence patterns related to animals to develop their speaking skills. ●Learn to talk about favourite animals with accurate descriptive expressions to improve their ability of expressing reasons and opinions in English.
Thinking Qualities ●Be able to analyze the characteristics of favourite animals and think about why they like them. ●Be able to compare different animals and their attributes,which helps them develop the ability to make distinctions and evaluations.
Cultural Awareness ●Be aware of the cultural differences and similarities by talking about favourite animals. ●Understand the importance of biodiversity and develop a sense of respect to different species and their habitats.

1.Students are able to describe different animals with the words and phrases:fox,lion,tiger,giraffe,eagle,wolf,penguin,because,favourite,clever,funny,take care of
2.Students are able to explain why they like or dislike a certain animal with the key sentence patterns in this lesson:①—What's your favourite animal?—It's the monkey.②—Why do you like monkeys?—Because they're clever and funny.

1.Students are able to describe different animals with various and accurate descriptive words.
2.Students are able to think deeply about the reasons why they like a certain animal and explain these reasons in a logical and meaningful way.
Step 1 Lead-in
Ask students to watch a short video of Animal World and ask them to say out the names of the animals in the video.
T:What animals do you see in the video
S1:Penguins.
T:Anything else
S2:Giraffes…
T:Today we are going to talk about animals.

Work on 1a
1.Ask students to look at the pictures in 1a and write down the names of the animals.
2.Ask students to read the words and the teacher helps to correct their pronunciations if necessary.
Step 2 Listening & Speaking(1b~1d)
Work on 1b
1.Ask students to listen to the conversation in 1b and answer the three questions according to the recording.
T:The teacher is talking about something to his students.Let's listen to his instructions and answer the three questions.Question One:Where are the students?Question Two:Why are they there?Question Three:When should they be back
2.Ask students to share their answers.
Work on 1c
1.Ask students to listen to 1c and judge whether the sentences are correct or incorrect.
T:Different students are talking about the animals at the zoo.Who likes monkeys?Who doesn't like wolves?Where do the students see the monkeys?Listen to the recording and circle T for true or F for false.
2.Ask students to share their answers and the teacher helps to correct their mistakes if necessary.
3.Ask students to make a summary about the descriptive words in listening scripts of 1c.
Work on 1d
1.Ask some of the students to share their favourite animals.
T:What's your favourite animal
S:My favourite animal is…
T:Why do you like them
S:I like them because they are…
2.Ask students to make a conversation with their deskmates using the sentence patterns in 1d and descriptive words in 1c.
T:It's time to make a conversation in pairs.Here is an example in 1d.Try to use more words to tell us why you like the animals.
3.Choose three or four pairs of students to share their conversations.

Step 3 Pronunciation & Speaking(1~3)
1.Show students the phonetic symbols of the letter “a” and its combinations “ai,ay,al,aw.”
2.Ask students to read in groups and find out how these combinations pronounce.
(The teacher shows the phonetic symbols one by one.)

1.Ask students to listen to the recording and repeat after the recording.
2.Ask students to read all the words,and then the teacher checks.

1.Ask students to listen to the recording and find out how-s and-es are pronounced in 2.
2.Ask students to make a summary of the pronunciation rules of-s/-es and the teacher helps to correct their mistakes if necessary.
Work on 3
1.Ask students to listen to the recording and repeat after the recording.Students notice how the unstressed words are pronounced in a sentence.
2.Ask students to read together.
