Do you ever want to talk to the writer after reading a book they write At Boone Middle School in Florida, US, all eighth-graders had a video talk with US writer S. L. Rottman, who wrote 10 books. Before the talk, they read the writer’s book Hero in their reading class.
The book is about a 15-year-old boy named Sean. The law makes him work on a horse farm. But the book’s ending is not clear. Will Sean just do what he has to do, or will he make some changes The students wanted to know what happened to Sean and asked Rottman about it. The answer they received was that “it’s good for you guys to think of your own ending.”
Caitlynne Sheppard was happy with the answer. “She gave us an ending in the book and told us her alternative (供選擇的) ending, but it still left us trying to think what might happen.”
In fact, the video talk was just part of the school’s yearly reading project. Students not only had to finish reading the book Hero, but also needed to have a talk with the “heroes” around them and make reports. 6.Before talking with the writer, what did the students read
7.What is not clear in the book

(22-23八年級上·江蘇淮安·期中)March 24th
This morning, we had a school trip to the Dashan Collection House, a building of two floors. It is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We took the school bus and arrived (到達) at 9:00. When we entered the collection house, our eyes were caught by a collection of old photos of the town on the walls of the front hall. Those photos told us something about the history of the town. And then in the Art Room, we saw many photos of the countryside. Some famous local artists drew them. The colors of the flowers and the trees were rich and bright. All at once, I lost myself in the beauty of nature.
Then we went upstairs (樓上). On the left, there were over one hundred different clocks. The oldest clock was already more than two hundred years old. To my surprise, the clocks all worked well and they could tell the right time. It was then ten o’clock, and some clocks made different beautiful sounds. It seemed to be a concert. How amazing!
On the right there was also a stone (石頭) collection. The stones were from all over the country. They were in different sizes, colors and shapes. Some looked like different kinds of animals. I really liked one stone that looked like a little monkey. It looked very nice.

(20-21八年級上·江蘇鹽城·階段練習)Most high schools in the United States publish a yearbook once a year, usually in the spring. It is a record of the school year—a “book of memories” for the students.
Inside a yearbook is each student’s photo. The seniors are graduating soon, and their photos appear first. Next are the juniors. They are one year behind the seniors. Then come the second-year students. The last photos are the first-year students. The yearbook is not only about students. The teachers have photos, too.
The yearbook also has photos and descriptions of extracurricular activities. These are activities that students do after school, such as the chess club and Spanish club. There is even a yearbook club. Students in this club write, design and take photos all year for the yearbook.
In the yearbook, some students receive special titles. The seniors vote and choose the “class clown” (a funny student), the “most likely to succeed”(a student who got the best grades), and the “best dressed”(a student with a good fashion sense). There are also other awards.
Students usually sign each other’s yearbooks. This is especially important for the seniors because they are graduating. Students write notes to each other, such as, “We had a lot of fun,” or “I’ll never forget you.” They also write about the fun and funny experiences they shared in school together.

(20-21八年級上·江蘇蘇州·階段練習)Susannah was a shy but clever girl. She couldn’t see too well and had worn glasses for as long as she could remember. And again, for as long as she could remember, some of her classmates always made fun of her big glasses, laughed at her and called her names(起外號).
The worst thing was that Lewis started to call her “Four Eyes”. She acted like she didn’t mind, but in fact, she couldn’t stand it. She was sad.
One day, the class went to visit some caves(山洞). The children were walking towards the caves, when Lewis put his foot in a hole and fell down into it. While falling, he knocked Susan down into the hole, too. It was dark. All that could be seen was only a single ray of light coming from the cave roof. Susan and Lewis shouted for help, but no one came. In the cold dark cave, they spent a long dark night.
The next morning, they still hadn’t been found. Suddenly, Susan had an idea. She took a piece of wood. Then she used her glasses as a magnifying glass(放大鏡)and focused(使聚焦)the ray of light onto the dry wood until a little fire sprang up(突然出現). Now they had a torch(火炬). (20-21八年級上·江蘇蘇州·期中)In the UK, one of the funniest things about going to middle school is joining a club. Clubs usually have sport or cultural activities. There are clubs for such sports as baseball, basketball, football and so on. Clubs for cultural activities include arts, flower arrangement, tea culture and music bands. These club members work hard on their skills.
As soon as a new school year starts, clubs begin asking for new members. They put up posters around the school and try to persuade (說服) new students to join. For students who have just entered the school, so many choices can be difficult to choose. So a few days after they come to the new school, different clubs hold a meeting to explain (解釋) their activities and aims.
