Within the Strand Bookstore, you will find over 2.5 million books covering a wide variety of topics. I have a hard time believing you won’t find a book that you want to bring home after visiting the store. And if you would like to sell some of your own books, Strand has a buying desk that is open from Thursday to Saturday (10AM-2PM).

Courses that are taught via the Internet or online courses have become popular in many countries. There are different kinds of online courses, but most show a video of a teacher and students in a classroom. Students watch video online and take part in online activities. Some courses are free and open to anyone, giving students anywhere the chance to study at any time. Of course, watching students and teachers on a computer screen is not the same as taking part in a real class.
Other kinds of e-learning are being tested around the world. In Singapore, eight schools have been chosen to try new ways of using technology in the classroom. The schools have tablets and touchscreens instead of books and blackboards in the classrooms. There are also social media platforms to help the students work together on projects, and online “worlds” where the students can interact with each other and the digital environment while completing different learning tasks.
In South Korea, students have been taught English by teachers in the Philippines and other countries since 2011. The teachers are in their home countries and are connected to the Korean classrooms via the Internet. Instead of looking at a screen, the students interact with a robot in the classroom. The robot is controlled by the teacher and can move around the classroom and talk with the students. It is unlikely that the robot teachers will replace real teachers, but like online learning environments, they can be useful tools.
These important examples show us that e-learning can be successful. Thanks to technology, more and more ways of teaching and learning are being developed. Nobody knows what the classroom of the future will look like, but one thing is for true — there has never been a more interesting time to be a student.

Have you always thought that to stay healthy, you have to give up yummy foods Well, there’s some great news! A new study in a famous medical journal called The BMJ says that eating dark chocolate might help lower the chance of getting Type 2 diabetes (糖尿病).
However, the study didn’t prove that dark chocolate itself was the reason for this health benefit. It could be something else about the people who ate dark chocolate that made them less likely to get diabetes. Dr. Qi Sun, who is a nutrition expert at Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health and led this study, said dark chocolate isn’t a “miracle cure” for preventing diabetes.
But this study adds to a lot of other researches. Many studies have already shown that eating dark chocolate is linked to a lower risk of some health problems, like high blood pressure, heart diseases, and insulin resistance. Dr. Sun also said the results show that a small amount of dark chocolate can be part of a healthy diet. So, what exactly did the study find
Back in the mid-1980s and early 1990s, researchers started studying three groups of mostly white healthy workers. These nearly 190,000 people filled out detailed food questionnaires every four years. The questionnaires asked them how often they ate chocolate.
Then, in 2006 and 2007, the researchers changed the questionnaires. They began asking how often the participants ate dark chocolate and milk chocolate. The researchers watched over the participants’ health for as long as 34 years. During this time, almost 19,000 people got Type 2 diabetes.
The researchers thought about other things in people’s lives, like how much they exercised, drank alcohol, smoked, and how healthy their overall diets were. They also considered people’s ages and whether diabetes ran in their families. After all this, they found that people who ate at least five servings of any kind of chocolate every week had a 10% lower chance of getting Type 2 diabetes than those who rarely or never ate chocolate.
