No? Well, you definitely haven’t seen the movie Nope (不). This 2022 movie is a sci-fi horror. But despite having the amazing director Jordan Peele and the wonderful actors, this film still manages to be the worst I’ve ever seen. In the movie Nope, it shows us a western 1998 setting where we follow a brother, OJ, and a sister, Emerald Haywood. Emerald is a fun and entertaining woman, while OJ is shy but outspoken when necessary. They run a large horse farm. They observe something mysterious in the sky, which they later learn is a UFO. This UFO is eating people who are watching horse races. To help their horse farm, they try their best to beat the monster. Daniel Kaluuya is a good actor and has experienced playing in horror movies. In the movie, he did a good job at playing the role of OJ until he took a turn for the worse, going from a shy person to a hero who leads his group to success without any visible growth. That makes his character challenging for the audience to understand. I love Keke Palmer’s humor and energy in the movie, but it gets to a point where she is too active, which makes her character Emerald unpleasant. Many scenes in the movie are extended not to create suspense (懸念) but simply to add screen time. That makes the two hours feel like four. There are many storylines that end as quickly as they begin, with seemingly no point. The film is a far cry from horror and suspense. It is just an alien story with some seeming scares in between. Jordan Peele tried to make the movie symbolic, which made him blind to the idea that movies are supposed to be entertaining to watch. This movie is not for you if you are a true suspense and horror fan. If you ask me if you should watch it or not, I’d say “Nope”.1.What do you know about the movie?( )A.It is a western film.B.It is the worst movie.C.It is set in ancient times.D.It is popular with horror fans.2.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?( )A.The response of the audience.B.The suggestion on the acting.C.The comparison of the actors.D.The opinion on the characters.3.What is the main reason for the movie’s failure according to Paragraph 4?( )A.The long period.B.The wrong director.C.The worthless plots.D.The old-fashioned theme.4.What can be a suitable title for the text?( )A.Nope Is a Nope for MeB.What an Entertaining Film!C.Jordan Peele’s New MovieD.Should a Horror Be Horrible?B In movies and books, people often describe a decisive moment when they figure out who they are. However, I never thought it actually happened in real life.I never expected to have a “moment” of my own. When it arrived, mine was much more powerful than I could have ever imagined. During the spring of my junior year, my class watched a documentary called The Invisible Children. It was about three college students who take a trip to Africa and document their experience. At first the film was slightly humorous. However, once the group arrived in northern Uganda, the mood changed. They learned what the consequences of a 23-year war had been for thousands of children. Some had lost family and friends, and others were caught by the opposing force and became child soldiers. Before long, I was sobbing.I couldn’t believe these things were happening, yet at the same time I knew they were.I just hadn’t been paying attention, for in the past 17 years, I was blessedly protected. When the movie ended, I couldn’t get it out of my head. For the next week, I was not myself.Every bite of food I took I thought of Grace, the 15-year-old who had little to eat. When I went to bed, I pictured Sunday, the 14-year-old boy sleeping on a straw mat on the ground in a camp.My whole world shifted. Since that day, I haven’t been able to picture my future in a way that doesn’t involve going to Africa and doing what I can to help.Ultimately, this is why I decided to major in engineering. With an engineering degree, my potential for change will be limitless.I will build wells and schools, and design irrigation systems.Engineering is tough, but I know — in what Yeats called “my deep heart’s call” — that this is what I’m supposed to do with my life.5.What did the author think of a decisive moment at first?( )A.It was impossible.B.It was unforgettable.C.It was common.D.It was powerful.6.How does the movie influence the author?( )A.It amused him.B.It made him unsure of himself.C.It changed his perspectives on life.D.It made him lose the desire to eat or sleep.7.Why does the author choose to study engineering?( )A.To challenge himself.B.To achieve his goal.C.To be well acknowledged.D.To realize his childhood dream.8.In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?( )A.Celebrity. B.Health.C.Science. D.Education.C Lights, camera, action! Have you ever dreamed of being a director? At age 29, Di Di already has almost 10 years of directing experience. Through the media company he founded, he makes advertising and promotional videos, including for Tsinghua University, his alma mater (母校). For Di, becoming a director is an adventure based on interest. Majoring in journalism, he got into directing by chance. “In 2016, I came up with an idea for Tsinghua’s admissions(招生)video but couldn’t find a director,” Di said. “So I decided to be the director myself! I ended up really enjoying the process of being creative and working with a team. That was when I knew I wanted to be a director.” While many people think that directors are experts at art, Di found that directors are, in fact, experts at management. “Only one-third of my time is spent on set. The rest of the time, I’m doing lots of planning with my clients and co-workers,” he said. This planning process includes working out the video’s theme with the client, creating a play, bringing together the visuals and text content, and also managing logistics (后勤) like where to park the cars and how to bring electricity to the set. “Filming is an industry of high costs. Even short advertisements cost a lot of money per day. Any incident could result in the failure of the project, such as bad weather or the main character not turning up. You have to be quick to respond to any problems,” Di said. Despite the pressure, Di gets great joy from making an impact through his works. In 2019, he made a film for Tsinghua, which tells the story of a group of first-generation college students — the first to go to university in their families. It was viewed more than 15 million times on social media and became a hot top 20 trending topic on Sina Weibo. Being a first-generation college student himself, Di felt very passionate about the video’s goal of inspiring students to use their education to make a better life for their families. One month before the national college entrance exam in 2020, Di released a feature film encouraging high school students to keep working hard after the exam was pushed back by one month.9.What can we know from the passage?( )A.Di was a student whose major was directing.B.Di became a director by accident.C.Little money is needed to make a film.D.Most of Di’s time is spent on directing.10.What is the second paragraph mainly about?( )A.Di’s experience of directing.B.What it takes to be a director.C.How Di started to be a director.D.Di’s views on being a director.11.Which is not included in Di’s work?( )A.Planning the set.B.Talking about the topic.C.Putting visuals and texts together.D.Preparing meals.12.What can be learned from the last paragraph?( )A.Weather decides how well the process goes.B.Di’s video helps students go to university.C.Di’s video makes a difference to some students.D.Directing is a career with little pressure.Ⅱ. My interest in Chinese Kunqu opera began when I was eleven. It is the age when one can first fall in love with its words and start 13 them.I copied the great words into a notebook because I 14 the imaginative language. Then I started 15 the tones (腔調) and appreciating the melody.I 16 that Kunqu opera is not only what’s written — it is also the music, the dance moves and the headdress. Reading carefully, he found something he hadn’t known before. Having finished his homework, he went to bed. Hearing the result (=When I heard the result),I couldn’t help jumping. Having made full preparations (=After we have made full preparations), we are full of confidence. Being so excited (=As he was so excited),he couldn’t go to sleep that night. Having lived in the city for many years (=Since I had lived in the city for many years),I knew it well. Working hard at your lessons (=If you work hard at your regret. His parents got killed in the earthquake, leaving him an orphan (=and left him an orphan/which left him an orphan). Knowing all this (=Although they knew all this),they still made me pay for the damage. Having made up my mind (=Though I had made up my mind), I still wanted to play. The girls came into the classroom, singing and dancing (=and they sang and danced). He lay on the grass, staring at the sky for a long time (=and stared at the sky for a long time). 【即時演練1】 寫出下列句中動詞-ing形式的用法①Not knowing how to work out the difficult teacher’s voice, the pupils stopped talking at once. ⑤They walked on the way home, laughing and singing loudly. Being ill, he didn’t attend the wedding. (he與being ill是邏輯上的主謂關系→He was ill.)2. She being ill, her mother had to look after her at home. 常見的有:generally speaking 一般說來strictly speaking 嚴格說來judging from/by 根據…… Generally speaking, Chinese is more difficult to learn than English. Taking everything into consideration, I think he is the only and the best man to do this job. Though lacking money, his parents managed to send him to university.=Though they lacked money, his parents managed to send him to university. Not having tried his Being ill, he didn’t attend the wedding. (he與being ill是邏輯上的主謂關系→He was ill.)2. She being ill, her mother had to look after her at home. 常見的有:generally speaking 一般說來strictly speaking 嚴格說來judging from/by 根據…… Taking everything into consideration, I think he is the only and thebest man to do this job. Generally speaking, Chinese is more difficult to learn than English. Though lacking money, his parents managed to send him touniversity.=Though they lacked money, his parents managed to send him touniversity. Not No? Well, you definitely haven’t seen the movieNope (不). This 2022 movie is a sci-fi horror. But despite having theamazing director Jordan Peele and the wonderful actors, this film stillmanages to be the worst I’ve ever seen. In the movie Nope, it shows us a western 1998 setting where wefollow a brother, OJ, and a sister, Emerald Haywood. Emerald is afun and entertaining woman, while OJ is shy but outspoken whennecessary. They run a large horse farm. They observe somethingmysterious in the sky, which they later learn is a UFO. This UFO iseating people who are watching horse races. To help their horse farm, they try their best to beat the monster. Daniel Kaluuya is a good actor and has experienced playing in horrormovies. In the movie, he did a good job at playing the role of OJ until hetook a turn for the worse, going from a shy person to a hero who leads hisgroup to success without any visible growth. That makes his characterchallenging for the audience to understand. I love Keke Palmer’s humorand energy in the movie, but it gets to a point where she is too active, which makes her character Emerald unpleasant. Many scenes in the movie are extended not to create suspense (懸念) but simply to add screen time. That makes the two hours feel likefour. There are many storylines that end as quickly as they begin, withseemingly no point. The film is a far cry from horror and suspense. It isjust an alien story with some seeming scares in between. Jordan Peeletried to make the movie symbolic, which made him blind to the idea thatmovies are supposed to be entertaining to watch. This movie is not for youif you are a true suspense and horror fan. If you ask me if you shouldwatch it or not, I’d say “Nope”. 1. What do you know about the movie?( )A. It is a western film.B. It is the worst movie.C. During the spring of my junior year, my class watched adocumentary called The Invisible Children. It was about three collegestudents who take a trip to Africa and document their experience. At firstthe film was slightly humorous. However, once the group arrived innorthern Uganda, the mood changed. They learned what theconsequences of a 23-year war had been for thousands of children.Somehad lost family and friends, and others were caught by the opposing forceand became child soldiers. Before long, I was sobbing.I couldn’t believe these things werehappening, yet at the same time I knew they were.I just hadn’t beenpaying attention, for in the past 17 years, I was blessedlyprotected. When the movie ended, I couldn’t get it out of my head.Forthe next week, I was not myself.Every bite of food I took I thought ofGrace, the 15-year-old who had little to eat. When I went to bed, Ipictured Sunday, the 14-year-old boy sleeping on a straw mat on theground in a camp.My whole world shifted. Since that day, I haven’t been able to picture my future in a waythat doesn’t involve going to Africa and doing what I can tohelp.Ultimately, this is why I decided to major in engineering. With anengineering degree, my potential for change will be limitless.I will buildwells and schools, and design irrigation systems.Engineering is tough, but I know — in what Yeats called “my deep heart’s call” — that thisis what I’m supposed to do with my life. 5.
