One day, I found a page where Grandma wrote, “I wish I could have a bike to go to school. It would save so much time.” I wanted to make her dream come true. So I spent all my money and bought an old bike in a shop. With Grandpa’s help, we fixed it together.
On Grandma’s birthday, I gave her the bike. She was so surprised that tears (眼淚) came to her eyes. “It’s just like the one I wanted!” she said. Some people believe that humans could live on the planet Mars (火星) by the year 2100. Our own planet, the earth, is becoming more and more crowded and polluted. It is hoped that people could start all over again and build a better world on Mars. Here is what life there could be like.
Now our spacecraft are too slow to carry large numbers of people to Mars—it would take months. With the development of technology (科技的發(fā)展), by the year 2100, the journey might only take about 20 minutes in spacecraft! However, the spacecraft would travel really fast, so the journey to Mars might be quite uncomfortable. Many people would feel ill.
Humans can’t live without water, air or food. So far, nobody knows whether (是否) there would be enough water or air on Mars for people. And scientists are not sure whether plants could grow on Mars. Food would most probably be in the form of pills (藥片的形式) and would not be so delicious.
Life on Mars would be better in some ways. People would have more space. They might live in houses with huge comfortable rooms. Also, robots would do most of their work so that they could have more time to relax. There would probably be no schools on Mars. Every student would study at online schools with “e-teachers”.
Life on Mars would be interesting and challenging (挑戰(zhàn)性的). However, it may take many years to make it come true. So the most important thing we need to do now is to protect our beautiful blue planet—the earth!
41. Why would people move to Mars
A. Flying to Mars would be fun. B. They want to challenge themselves.
C. Plants could grow better there. D. The earth is crowded and polluted.
42. What does the word “spacecraft” in Paragraph 2 mean
A. Spaceships. B. Hot-air balloons. C. Space stations. D. Trains.
43. What would the journey to Mars be like by the year 2100
A. Fast and enjoyable. B. Fast but uncomfortable.
C. Slow and boring. D. Slow but comfortable.
44. What can we learn from the passage
A. People would be busy with work on Mars.
B. There would be enough water and air on Mars for people.
C. The writer thinks living on Mars would be full of challenges.
D. Food on Mars would be more delicious than that on the earth.
45. What’s the best title (題目) for the passage
A. Life on Mars B. Food on Mars
C. Schools on Mars D. The Environment on Earth

Many people think pigs are dirty and lazy. But this is not true! Pigs are very smart animals. In fact, scientists say pigs are as clever as dogs. They can even play video games!
Most pigs live on farms all over the world. People feed them. They eat almost anything. Pigs like to stay near water or mud (泥). Some pigs also live in forests and grasslands (草地). A pig has a special nose called a “snout”. It uses its snout to dig for food in the ground. Most pigs are pink and they are 150-200 kg heavy. But the world’s smallest pig, the Pygmy Hog, is only 25 cm tall and 6-9 kg heavy!
Pigs can help people in surprising ways. They can help find truffles (松露), a very expensive food that grows underground. Doctors use their skin (皮膚) to help burn patients (燒傷的病人). Most importantly, pigs can keep farms clean by eating insects (昆蟲) and rotten (腐爛的) food.
We all know pigs like playing in mud. They do this to cool down because they have no sweat glands (汗腺). Their skin is thin. Without sweat glands, they get hot easily. Mud also stops their skin from sunburn and insect bites (叮咬)!
