Books were my true friends back then.I was so thankful that the authors wrote those books. The kindness they offered me with their books saved my life. One of my biggest dreams was to become an author so I could write books that would help other teenagers the way those books helped me. After surviving terrible experiences at school and at home, I made a choice to take the optimistic, positive road in the next steps of my journey. My dream career, one I thought was only possible for the authors I loved, is what I am doing now.I have been a full-time author of teen novels since 2007 and am grateful for this amazing opportunity to reach out to readers every single day. Kindness saved me when I needed help the most.Even small acts of kindness can change someone’s life. You never know what someone else is going through. But by practicing daily kindness, you become an architect of positive change.24.What was the author’s life like when he was 12?A.Boring. D.Learn to care more about others’ feelings.C Feeling good and having humour in our lives can do wonders for our position and productivity, which means that there is definitely a place for some humour on the job.Having a smiling face will help your co-workers and supervisors feel better around you, and you may well end up harvesting rewards by laughing more in the workplace. But you need to know how to apply humour to your work environment. One of the main rules with humour in the workplace is to avoid argument when you are joking on the job.Stay well away from joking about political affairs, race and religion.Never make fun of other people within your organization, as you are trying to win friends with the people you work with, and not set against them.If you can’t help yourself, please be extremely careful. Making jokes about the ups and downs of your trade is a safe way to the place of work. You will have the benefit of knowing exactly what your co-workers have to face each day, and it’s much better as it helps to let go of tensions and lower stress levels by getting them to chuckle (低聲地笑) about the situations they come across frequently. The very best time for some humour is when you are not working, but still in the region of the people you work with, such as a coffee or lunch break. You can also make an effort to be funny on the job, but when you are working, it’s a good idea to use jokes much more thinly than you would normally do. In general, humour in the workplace is a superb area to flex your creative muscles and be a great help to your job.28.Which of the following best describes the function of humour in the workplace?A.Special. B.Convincing.C.Rewarding. D.Ordinary.29.What topic is safe to joke about at work?A.Politics. B.Work.C.Race. D.Religion.30.What does the underlined word “thinly” in Paragraph 4 mean?A.Humorously. B.Secretly.C.Directly. D.Infrequently.31.What is the best title for the text?A.Views on Making Friends at Work B.Ways of Making Humour at WorkC.Benefits of Being Humorous at Work D.Attitudes towards Making Humour at WorkD A culture’s values can be mirrored by its humour.Humour has been evaluated by many great minds such as Thomas Hobbes, who disliked humour, and thought laughter is nothing else but sudden glory arising from sudden thought of feeling far better than others. He thought humour to be a negative quality of human narrow-mindedness. However, Mordechai Gordon, PhD of Education, insists that humour allows us to view the world from an angle that is amusing rather than serious.I agree with Gordon.Learning to look at the world through humour is important. In the United States, every four years an election occurs.Without humour as a way to express their feelings, how would Americans be willing to support the election?Television shows like The Daily Show have become important parts of American culture. They are affecting the masses by unconsciously inputting politics into their minds. They make politics fun. Of course, politics is only one type of humour.Social humour helps people through the twists and turns of the human condition.American pop culture promotes an unhealthy self-image.On the topic of self-image, Hari Kondabolu stands out.He has a joke about the popular musical group The Pussycat Dolls, describing their hit song Don’t Cha as a negative representation of women. He points out the obvious offence in American culture. A study from Loyola University Maryland has shown that humour is one determining factor in selecting a partner.Among other things, people look for an outstanding funny bone in a potential partner. Of course, humour is not always used for good purposes.Humour can be linked to vulgarity (粗俗) and racism, but, like everything else, it has the potential to unite human beings by allowing us to laugh at ourselves, our failures and our connections with one another. Though life may seem tough and depressing at times, all I have to do is look in the mirror at my increased wrinkles (皺紋) to know that there is comedy out there that even Chaplin wasn’t aware of.With that in mind, remember to laugh with humanity.32.What did Hobbes think of humour?A.It resulted in the narrow-mindedness of human beings.B.It was only a way to laugh at others to make oneself feel better.C.It had the power to mirror personal glory and national values.D.It made people view the world from another angle.33.What is the author’s attitude towards political humour?A.Worried. B.Disappointed.C.Curious. D.Appreciative.34.How is the fourth paragraph mainly developed?A.By describing the process. B.By giving an example.C.By comparing. D.By classifying.35.What can we learn from the last paragraph?A.Chaplin wasn’t aware of being laughed at.B.The author feels helpless and sad about getting older.C.Never be the one who laughs at other people.D.The author is determined to face life with a sense of humour.第二節(jié)(共5小題;每小題2.5分,滿分12.5分) 閱讀下面短文,從短文后的選項中選出可以填入空白處的最佳選項。選項中有兩項為多余選項。 Ways to Get Your Laughter Back Through all my school years, laughter was part of my life.My best friend and I came up with a name for the “really good”laughs. We called them Belly Rolls. That may sound silly, but it is the truth. However, after I realized I had “l(fā)ost” my laughter, the first thing I thought of was how silly I was going to look and sound. 36 This is how you do it. 37 It will be a forced laugh.I know it sounds silly, but trust me, if you can’t laugh by yourself and be comfortable, it’s even harder to laugh in a social situation when you think people are judging you. He founded and was head of Microsoft for years. Gates was born into a rich family in the state of Washington. His father was a lawyer; his mother was a banker. He is famous for being taken as the father of the modern computer. He studied at Harvard University but did not graduate because of his desire to develop new software. As a 13-year-old student, Gates was introduced to computer programming. In 1975, Gates spoke to a company called Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems (MITS). He convinced the owner of the company that he had written a program that would work well and make big money. The owner bought into Gates’ inventions, and the two men reached an agreement to develop software for the company. Then the Microsoft Company was born. One of the main rules with humour in the workplace is to avoidargument when you are joking on the job.Stay well away from jokingabout political affairs, race and religion.Never make fun of otherpeople within your organization, as you are trying to win friendswith the people you work with, and not set against them.If you can’thelp yourself, please be extremely careful. Making jokes about the ups and downs of your trade is a safe wayto the place of work. You will have the benefit of knowing exactly whatyour co-workers have to face each day, and it’s much better as ithelps to let go of tensions and lower stress levels by getting them tochuckle (低聲地笑) about the situations they come acrossfrequently. The very best time for some humour is when you are notworking, but still in the region of the people you work with, such asa coffee or lunch break. You can also make an effort to be funny on thejob, but when you are working, it’s a good idea to use jokes muchmore thinly than you would normally do. However, Mordechai Gordon, PhD of Education, insists thathumour allows us to view the world from an angle that is amusingrather than serious.I agree with Gordon.Learning to look at the worldthrough humour is important. In the United States, every four years an electionoccurs.Without humour as a way to express their feelings, how wouldAmericans be willing to support the election?Television shows likeThe Daily Show have become important parts of Americanculture. They are affecting the masses by unconsciously inputtingpolitics into their minds. They make politics fun. Of course, politics is only one type of humour.Social humourhelps people through the twists and turns of the humancondition.American pop culture promotes an unhealthy self-image.Onthe topic of self-image, Hari Kondabolu stands out.He has a jokeabout the popular musical group The Pussycat Dolls, describing theirhit song Don’t Cha as a negative representation of women. He pointsout the obvious offence in American culture. A study from Loyola University Maryland has shown thathumour is one determining factor in selecting a partner.Among otherthings, people look for an outstanding funny bone in a potentialpartner. Of course, humour is not always used for goodpurposes.Humour can be linked to vulgarity (粗俗) and racism, but, like everything else, it has the potential to unite human beingsby allowing us to laugh at ourselves, our failures and our connectionswith one another. Though life may seem tough and depressing at times, all I haveto do is look in the mirror at my increased wrinkles (皺紋) to knowthat there is comedy out there that even Chaplin wasn’t aware of.Withthat in mind, remember to laugh with humanity.語篇解讀:本文是一篇議論文。文章主要講述作者對幽默的看法。語篇解讀:本文是一篇議論文。文章主要講述作者對幽默的看法。32.
