戲劇的主要構成元素包括劇名(title of play)、場(scene)、人物(characters)、臺詞(lines of dialogue)和舞臺說明(stage directions)。
1.May we ask what you're doing in this country and what your plans are
2.I'm afraid I don't quite follow you, sir.
3.I just want a job that earns an honest income.
①Hello!May I speak to the headmaster
你好!
②The plot is almost impossible to follow.

③It's quite a struggle to make an honest living.

1.They see a poor young man walking outside their house. It is Henry Adams.
2.And it was the ship that brought you to England.
賞析:本句中用“it was ...that ...”
3.That's why we've given you the letter.
4.Well, why don't you explain what this is all about
①As we drew closer, I could ____________________________ by a pack of dogs.
②______________________________________ when I was in trouble.
③They believe it is the time when the moon is at its fullest and brightest in the whole year.____________________ people celebrate the festival.
④I wonder ____________________________.
About a month ago, I was sailing, and towards night I found myself carried out to sea by a strong wind. The next morning I was spotted by a ship.
賞析:本句使用了was sailing, found myself carried out, was spotted等動作將亨利的遭遇簡潔地介紹出來。
(The brothers smile at each other.)
(happily) What luck! Brother, what luck!
①He smiled, his eyes full of laughter.
他露出了笑容,________________________。
②Aleey became very happy now and a gentle smile spread over her face.
阿利現在變得很開心,__________________________________________。

A
Last year as I faced my 33rd birthday, it seemed like a good time to sit down and make a list of financial goals. Some were instantly doable, like spending less on food.(Goodbye,$7 organic strawberries.) Others were more ambitious:save enough cash for a down payment on an apartment; build a savings account for fun grown-up stuff like buying last-minute plane tickets to Tahoe.
One problem:These things required more money than I was making. The other problem:In this economy, it wasn't realistic to expect a huge raise.Suddenly, my future started to look like an ever-narrowing tunnel.Without a big increase in cash flow, how was my amazing life supposed to start Obviously, I was doomed.
I loved my job, I loved my boss, but I'd spent my 20 seconds closing up shop at the office every night when I knew I should have been playing harder and taking more risks.I'd built a career I was proud of, but realized I couldn't view a paycheck as my final reward.
Finally, I made a decision.I'd give myself a happiness raise and bring into my life more of the good things that money can't buy (and that I'd been denying myself), and less of the stuff that didn't have much real value.
The first step was to do a serious accounting, calculating where I'd been spending my time and energy and noting how much joy I was netting on a daily basis. The results didn't surprise me:so many have-tos and must-dos, so few moments of real enjoyment.
I set a new rule:Anytime the word “should” flashed across my mind, I hit the brakes.Did I really want to attend this baby shower or join that book club Often I didn't — so I respectfully said no, and found that the world didn't end.
1.Why did the author say goodbye to $7 organic strawberries
A.He was on a diet.
B.He couldn't afford them.
C.He didn't like them any more.
D.He planned to cut down the food expense.
由第一段中的“Some were instantly doable, like spending less on food.(Goodbye,$7 organic strawberries.)”

2.What was the difficulty with the author's ambitious financial goals
A.He was making little money.
B.It was difficult for him to get promoted.
C.He couldn't save more money for his amazing life.
D.His future seemed like an ever-narrowing tunnel.

3.According to the text, which can give the author more happiness
A.Joining a book club.
B.Attending a baby shower.
C.Buying last-minute plane tickets.
D.Spending the weekends with his loved family.

由第四段中的“I'd give myself a happiness raise and bring into ...less of the stuff that didn't have much real value”和最后一段中的“Did I really want to ...I respectfully said no, and found that the world didn't end”可知,作者要把更多金錢買不到的好東西帶進自己的生活,D項是金錢買不到的幸福,A項和B項是作者會拒絕的行動,C項沒有太多真正價值,不符合作者提升幸福的想法。故選D。
4.What can we infer from the text
A.Birthday is a good time to set a goal.
B.We need to learn to say no to something.
C.The author celebrated his birthday by making financial goals.
D.The author decided to make more money for his amazing life.

由第四段中的“I'd give myself a happiness raise and bring into ...less of the stuff that didn't have much real value”和最后一段可知,作者想讓自己更幸福,并將少做一些沒有真正價值的事,所以作者開始說“不”,由此可得出,要想生活幸福,就要學會對生活中不必要的事情說“不”。故選B。

Andrew White brings his four-legged friends Oliver and Amore to his neighborhood Petco pet stores in San Diego for a little takeout. He has brought the pair to a kibble refill station (寵物食品補給站) that allows owners to use their own containers (容器).
“It's more affordable for everyone,” he said.
Like the price of many things these days, the price of owning a pet has been increasing.A report on petfoodindustry.com finds the cost of feeding household animals was up about 6% in March over last year. The overall pet category saw a 7.5% increase compared to last March. The American Pet Products Association says a record $123.6 billion was spent in the US last year on pets.A survey shows 70% of American families now include a pet of some kind.
In Kansas City, the KC Pet Project is seeing animals surrendered because of their owners' money problems.“It is sad to see a number of pets coming in through our doors,” said KC Pet Project Chief Communications Officer Tori Fugate.“People are calling us every week saying, ‘I don't want to leave my animal, but I can't find a place to live with it.’”
One big cost is vet (獸醫) care. The KC Pet Project gave out more than $96,000 last year to help owners with medical bills.Recent findings from Consumers' Checkbook show costs differed widely from vet to vet in seven cities they listed. So they say if pet owners want to save money, do some checking first.“If you know that your pets are going to need certain treatment, you can call around and get prices, and then decide what to do next,” said Consumers' Checkbook Executive Editor Kevin Brasler.
In Florida, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay has increased its animal pantries (食品儲藏室), so people can get free food for their dogs and cats.
“I believe things will get better,” said Sherry Silk, CEO of the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.“It's got to get better because the animals really need us.”
5.What do the numbers in paragraph 3 mainly show
A.Keeping pets is still popular in the US.
B.The costs for pets are rising in the US.
C.Most Americans have difficulty keeping pets.
D.Many Americans are careful about having pets.

根據第三段中的“Like the price of many things these days ... $123.6 billion was spent in the US last year on pets.”
6.What does the underlined word “surrendered” in paragraph 4 mean
A.Hunted for. B.Looked over.
C.Given up. D.Handed out.

根據第四段中的“because of their owners' money problems”和“It is sad to see a number of pets coming in through our doors”可知,畫線詞所在句子表示“在堪薩斯城,KC寵物項目看到一些動物因為主人的經濟問題而被遺棄”。
7.What can pet owners do to treat their pets according to Kevin
A.Ask for medical prices first.
B.Choose a big local pet hospital.

Last year as I faced my 33rd birthday, it seemed like a good time to sit down and make a list of financial goals. Some were instantly doable, like spending less on food.(Goodbye,$7 organic strawberries.) Others were more ambitious:save enough cash for a down payment on an apartment; build a savings account for fun grown up stuff like buying last minute plane tickets to Tahoe.
One problem:These things required more money than I was making. The other problem:In this economy, it wasn't realistic to expect a huge raise.Suddenly, my future started to look like an ever narrowing tunnel.Without a big increase in cash flow, how was my amazing life supposed to start Obviously, I was doomed.
The results didn't surprise me:so many have tos and must dos, so few moments of real enjoyment.
I set a new rule:Anytime the word “should” flashed across my mind, I hit the brakes.Did I really want to attend this baby shower or join that book club Often I didn't — so I respectfully said no, and found that the world didn't end.

Andrew White brings his four legged friends Oliver and Amore to his neighborhood Petco pet stores in San Diego for a little takeout.
The American Pet Products Association says a record D|S123.6 billion was spent in the US last year on pets.A survey shows 70% of American families now include a pet of some kind.
The KC Pet Project gave out more than D|S96,000 last year to help owners with medical bills.Recent findings from Consumers' Checkbook show costs differed widely from vet to vet in seven cities they listed.
