In recent years, the word “involution (內卷)” has become very popular. It describes a situation where people have to work or study hard just to stay in the same place or to get a slight advantage (輕微優勢).

They always try to get better grades than their classmates. Some students even stay up late to study, without caring about their health. This kind of non-stop competition among students is a typical character of involution.
