英美人的家庭觀
美國人很具有獨立意識，在成年后他們便自力更生，不依賴父母。但這絕不說明他們對家庭毫無溫情，只是他們認為依賴別人（包括親人）是一種羞恥，應該靠個人奮斗去達到目標。當然，他們也有互相幫助的時候。英美人之間的親屬關系相對疏遠，在語言中便有所體現，如將爸媽的姐妹統稱為aunt，而我國逐一分為伯母、嬸母、姨母、姑母、舅母。
英美人的家庭一般民主氛圍濃厚，家庭成員之間有時連稱呼也很“隨便（在我們中國人看來）”。例如：Mike的五

歲兒子Tom在叫他時可以直呼其名Mike，這在我國是不可思議的。
盡管稱呼很隨意，但英美人特別有禮貌，如Tom的媽媽為Tom盛飯后，Tom會說“Thank
you,
Mum.”。禮貌用語“Thank
you.”在家庭中經常使用，別人為你做了一點兒小事也要感謝。晚輩幫助長輩，長輩也會道謝。
每個國家都有自己的傳統生活觀念，我們不能說孰優孰劣，但是為了真正學好英語，多了解一些西方社會的文化現象是非常有必要的。
